A leading Democrat on Wednesday claimed US President Joe Biden may quit his reelection run should doctors discover he has a medical problem after testing COVID-19 positive.
Biden appeared, for the first time, somewhat receptive to quitting the White House race in response to Representative Adam Schiff, a close friend from California, advising him to “pass the torch”.
“A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy,” Schiff added, “and I have major questions about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
Joe Biden remarked, “I said I was going to be a transitional candidate, and I thought I’d be able to move on from this, pass it on to someone else. But I didn’t anticipate things getting so, so, so divided,” he said as quoted by AFP.
The US President, however, justified his choice to remain on for a rematch with Republican Donald Trump, set for November. Joe Biden clarified much more why he had not passed on to a new generation following one term.
Since a terrible debate against Donald Trump about three weeks ago, Biden has been battling for political survival. His fatigued and perplexed look raised questions on his age. Later Wednesday, he was scheduled to give a fresh try to support his candidacy in a speech to vital Latino voters in the battleground state of Nevada.
