Southport attack today:
A knife attack on a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in a northern English town on Monday injured nine people and killed two children. One witness referred to the attack as a “horror movie,” leading to the detention of a teenage suspect. Chief Constable Serena Kennedy of Merseyside Police said that two adults and six injured children are in critical condition. Kennedy also stated that the police believe the attacker entered the building brandishing a knife and began attacking.

“We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked,” she remarked at a news conference on Monday evening.
According to Merseyside Police, there has been a stabbing in Southport, which is north of Liverpool. In the town, emergency services were contacted at approximately 11:50 a.m. local time (6:50 a.m. ET) regarding a “major incident.” After his arrest, authorities charged a 17-year-old boy with “suspicion of murder and attempted murder.”
“The investigation is in its early stages, and the motivation for the incident remains unclear. However, Counterterrorism Police Northwest have offered their support,” Kennedy said.
A Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance class for kids ages six to eleven was one of the events advertised at the address on Hart Street behind the Hart Space studios, which the owner said he had directed police to.
The police arrested a 17-year-old boy in the coastal village of Banks in Lancashire, just outside of Southport, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. According to authorities, the suspect—whose name has not been made public—was born in Cardiff, Wales.
